About Lir

Lir Canoe Club is a roof rack kayaking club – this means that we don’t have a club house, we simply arrange to meet at a time and place and our members arrive with everything they need!

Our members are largely based in Dublin & Wicklow, so our weekly river trips focus on rivers such as the Avonmore (Wicklow), the Liffey (Dublin) and the Boyne (Meath). Our river trips are organised by members for members, so everyone gets a turn to choose where we go.

Safety is our primary concern on river trips, so we will always ensure that there is an appropriate mix of skill levels on the river trips.

We have weekly pool sessions where members can learn and refine skills such as rolling in a warm and safe environment.

During the summer months when the rivers are too low we usually take to the sea and enjoy some scenic paddling in Dalkey, Bray, Howth, Skerries.

We organise several weekend trips during the year, both in Ireland and the UK. Many members travel to Slovenia, France or Italy in the Summer months for some Alpine paddling.

We also host some non-paddling events each year: our AGM is in February, an annual charity social event (eg pub quiz), a summer social, a Christmas party.

We have a number of instructors in our club, however we do not run beginner courses. Please visit canoe.ie for more information on how to get started on your kayaking journey.
